This is one of the first patterns I designed and is quite small. I've been meaning to switch this over to "free" for quite a while now, but only now just got to it. I hope you enjoy it!

Stitches & Terms

  • SLST = slip stitch
  • SK = skip
  • CH = chain
  • SC = single crochet
  • DC = double crochet
  • TC = triple crochet
  • CSDC = chainless starting double crochet
  • FP = front post
  • BP = back post
  • Puff stitch = (yarn over, place hook in stitch, yarn over, draw up a loop) three times, yarn over, draw through all loops on hook
  • Tc2tog = holding back the last loop of both stitches, TC in each of the stitches or spaces indicated, then y.o. and pull through all loops on hook
  • Small picot = ch3, slst in third ch from hook, ch1
  • Large picot = ch5, slst in fourth ch from hook, ch2

Pattern Notes

  • Join all rounds with a SLST to the first stitch of the round, unless otherwise indicated.
  • If a round begins with a "CSDC" you may choose to work a CH 3 instead.
  • I recommend crocheting over your starting thread as you work the beginning rounds.
  • Pattern repeats are marked with an asterisk (*).

Begin with a magic circle.

Round 1 = CH 1, 12 SC in circle. Join. [12 SC]

Round 2 = CH2, (yarn over, place hook in same stitch, yarn over, draw up a loop) twice, yarn over, draw through all loops on hook, CH2, *puff stitch in next stitch, CH2* around. Join by SLST into the first space of this round. [12 puff stitches and 12 ch2 spaces]

Round 3 = 3 SC in each space around. Join. [36 SC]

Round 4 = *(DC, CH2, DC) in stitch, skip 2 stitches* around. Join. Place one stitch marker together around the 1st and last DC of this round for round 6. [12 spaces, 24 DC]

Round 5 = SLST into first space. CSDC, 3 DC in same space, *4 DC in each space* around. Join. [48 DC]

Round 6 = CH 1, SC in first two stitches, FP-tc2tog (first leg is worked around both of the marked stitches of round 4, the second leg is worked around the next two DC of round 4)--see the picture below this round which indicates how you will thread your hook around both of these stitches to perform the first leg, SC in next four stitches from round 5, *FP-tc2tog (first leg is worked around the same 2 DC of round 4 as last leg of last tc2tog, second leg is worked around next 2 DC of round 4), SC in next four stitches from round 5* around, FP-tc2tog (first leg is worked around the same 2 DC of round 4 as last leg of last tc2tog, second leg is worked around same 2 DC of round 4 as first leg of first tc2tog of round), SC in next two stitches of round 5. Join. [12 FP-tc2tog, 48 SC]

Round 7 = CSDC, DC in next stitch, *2 DC in next FP-tc2tog, DC in each of the next 4 DC* around, 2 DC in next FP-tc2tog, DC in each of the last 2 DC. Join. [72 DC]

 Round 8 = BP-SLST around first stitch, CSDC—first BPDC made. *BPDC around next stitch* around. Join. [72 BPDC]

Round 9 = FP-SLST around first stitch, CSDC—first FPDC made, *(FPDC, CH1) around next stitch* around. Join. [72 FPDC, 72 spaces]

Round 10 = CH 1, *SC in next space, 2 SC in next space* around. Join. [108 SC]

Round 11 = CH 1, SC in first stitch, *SC in next stitch* around. Join. [108 SC]

Round 12 = SLST into next two stitches, CH 1, SC in same stitch and in next four stitches, CH10, skip four stitches, *SC in the next five stitches, CH10, skip four stitches* around. Join. [60 SC, 12 spaces]

Round 13 = SLST into the next stitch. CH 1, SC in same stitch and in next two stitches, sk next stitch, 13 DC in space, skip one stitch, *SC in the next three stitches, sk next stitch, 13 DC in space, skip one stitch* around. Join. [36 SC, 156 DC]

Round 14 = SLST into the next stitch, CH 1, SC in same stitch, skip one stitch, SC in the next two DC, (SC, CH 3, SC) in next DC, SC in the next three DC, (SC, CH 4, SC) in next DC, SC in the next three DC, (SC, CH 3, SC) in next DC, SC in the next two DC, skip one stitch, *SC in next stitch, skip one stitch, SC in the next two DC, (SC, CH 3, SC) in next DC, SC in the next three DC, (SC, CH 4, SC) in next DC, SC in the next three DC, (SC, CH 3, SC) in next DC, SC in the next two DC, skip one stitch* around.
