When I first completed this pattern, I fell in love with it because it's unique. It doesn't have pineapples, and the finished look makes it perfect as a place mat. Eventually, when we have our own home, I'd like to make a set of six or so of these and use them as a place mats for our dining room table.
The pattern is only 29 rounds and is super easy to follow. When I did it, the center kind of bunched because the stitching is very tight, but when you block it, it comes out quite nicely. I used a 1.25mm hook with 250 yards of size 10 crochet thread and it came out to about 11 inches after blocking.
You can find the full pattern with photo tutorial here. This pattern doesn't take long to complete. If I have dedicated time to crochet, it usually only takes me about three days to make a doily of this size.
I have a love for pineapple doilies, but this non-pineapple one is very dear to me. For some reason, I absolutely love the design, love the quickness, love how tight all the stitches are, and I love that it is versatile.
