"Emilyandthe" is simply the name of my website. My name is not Emily--it is Grace.

In 2012 I taught myself to crochet by watching Youtube videos and reading online tutorials. I started with blankets and hats. Two years later, while I was pregnant with our second boy, I attempted my first doily. It was also my first attempt at blocking. My second doily won me first place in Reddit Crochet's "Aloha April Contest" in 2014. And that is when I knew I was hooked. Since then, I've made over a hundred doilies and my other crochet projects have been fewer and far between.

Later in the same year, I designed my first doily. It was a lot of work, more than I thought it would be, and quite exhausting. However, I loved it. Later designs wouldn't come for quite a while, but in early 2016 I completed the transition from crochet producer to crochet designer. I felt by this time I had refined my technique enough to begin experimenting.

I finally came around to creating a testing group, a wonderful group of crocheters who have supported me endlessly.

I love designing. I love crocheting. And I love doilies.
